2000 Toyota Tundra Rear End Noise
The inner dust shield that rides inside the groove of the rear drum was pressing inside the drum causing the noise.

If you look on the back side of the rear hub there is a seam along the back below the axil that has started to rust pushing it inwards towards the drum. With the expansion with heat the problem would come and go. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph there was a metallic grinding sound coming from the rear of the vehicle.
This noise may be caused by an increased rubbing condition between the frame gusset and the upper shock mounting retainers. I rotated the tires and no difference. Move it around see if it bumps the rear end or the frame.
Some carstrucks are noisier than. I have a 2012 57 4x4 rock warrior package truck. About a year ago I noticed a whining noise coming from rear end only when accelerating.
