2001 toyota tundra knocking while cold start. Its a distinct knock that varies with engine speed goes away after about 5-10 minutes of warm-up. The customer complaint is that the engine intermittently stalls or di. Hi folks I have a 2015 CM Limited with 58000 miles.
I have owned my 2002 Taco for almost 4 years and have just over 91k on the 3RZ. This noise seems to go away after driving for a while after the engine has reached. Some days when it is colder upon starting I sometimes here a squealing noise that sounds like it is coming from the serpentine belt.
The noise appears to be coming from inside the tires. Ive got 105k miles on the truck and the timing belt was replaced just last spring. Also the noise is sporadic and will only happen randomly.
The 27l has chain driven balance shafts maybe those are knocking on cold start. I noticed this noise around 5 days ago on a foggy and humid morning. One is varying degrees of piston slap during a cold-start worse in very cold weather.
In todays case study we have a 2015 Toyota Tundra pick up truck with a 57l V8 engine. Its normal for it to knock first cold start of the day 45 F or colder and let it worm up before you go maybe till the temp gauge start to rise. As it has gotten colder here over the last month Ive noticed a ticking more like a knocking but not quite noise when the engine is cold.
It has always had a engine knock when slowly accelerating between 1000-2500 rpms. They do have hyper tuetectic pistons which are designed to expand to better fit the bore at a certain temp. I have a 2001 Tundra that would not start this morning it finally got cold here in MN last night but that is probably just coincidence.
